Frida Retz 


Frida Retz (b. 1997) is a Danish visual artist educated at the Art Academy in Bergen. She works with absurd, humorous narratives through film, photography, performance, and sculpture. Her work explores relationships, connections, and the body in scenographies and her own universes. A recurring theme Retz explores in her art is the intersection of everyday life and the surreal by taking ordinary situations and highlighting them in a twisted and quirky way. Discover new aspects of otherwise familiar everyday scenarios through role-playing and playfulness.

Retz builds and reinterprets settings such as going to the gynecologist, a video game universe, and a living lawn, where all the costumes are homemade, and the props are constructed from unconventional materials.

Retz is active in the queer, kink scene in Copenhagen, where she is part of Bedside Productions, and in addition, she creates her own art porn films. According to visual artist Frida Retz, art porn insists on being an alternative to male-gazed pornography. The audience should be visually challenged and ideally leave with a smile on their face. Art porn can transcend gender and play with power relations and stereotypical notions of what sex can look like. Retz has co-authored S3x, published by People’s, and has held solo exhibitions in Copenhagen and participated in exhibitions in Estonia, Germany, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. Additionally, her video Glory Hoe was nominated for the Ekko Awards and has been shown around Europe, including at Copenhagen Pride, the Odense Film Festival, and Loophole Berlin.
